A lot has been going on in the realm of Dungeoncrawlers lately. Today's release of Legends of Amberland 3 by Silver Lemur Games is a great opportunity to also mention a couple of upcoming releases and a variety of demos which have just been unleashed upon us.
Legends of Amberland 3
Let's start with the fresh release. The Legends of Amberland series is strongly inspired by Might and Magic 3-5, and like these, it features an open world with quests and turn-based combat. It strongly builds upon the two prior games. So if you liked these or loved to play the old Might and Magic games, then make sure to have a look (you can also check out the Demo). Available on: GOG | Steam
The Darkness Below
Two weeks ago The Darkness Below was released. While in terms of graphics it might be inspired by Eye of the Beholder, in terms of gameplay the inspiration seems to be closer to Might and Magic as well, as it also features an open world with turn based combat. It as well offers a demo! Steam
THYSIASTERY
From the past to the future! One week from now THYSIASTERY will be released. This time with different inspirations, as this one is leaning towards the Roguelike side. Also comes with a very cool and unique art style. While release is in a week, you can have a look today already via the demo version. Steam
DEMOS!
Besides of these three games, I also want to mention a few demos of upcoming games which became available recently (and might only be available for a limited time).
Cyclopean II: The Dreamlands Minimalistic graphics. Top-down exploration meets Dungeoncrawling in a H.P. Lovecraft setting (Demo probably time limited) Steam-Demo
Dungeons of Dusk The DUSK FPS games are getting expanded with a turn-based crawler. Recent demo patch also includes a FOV adjustment! Steam-Demo
Dungeons of Ironshade Inspired by Eye of the Beholder, but visually very close to Legend of Grimrock. Steam-Demo
Dverghold This turn-based Dungeon Crawler goes for a bit of low poly look. Featuring base building and procedural Dungeons. Steam-Demo
Toward The Ice This one is probably closer to Wizardry or The Bard's Tale with its Random encounters. Steam-Demo
Underkeep An amazing looking turn based crawler. With just about 15 minutes of playtime the demo is rather short but its beautiful graphics and funny writing are already very promising. Steam-Demo
Vampire Crawlers I was a bit hesitant to mention it here. While meeting our Dungeon Crawler Definition it basically only uses crawling for the 4-5 steps to the next encounter you engage in the next card battle. Feels like a high production value game, but might not scratch that old-school "Dungeon Crawler" itch. Steam-Demo
A Kobold Story: Trenchcoat Adventurer Follow the adventures of three Kobolds in a Trenchcoat. Neatly drawn with quite funny writing. Steam-Demo
So...there is a lot of stuff to crawl through! Wishing you a lot of fun doing so!
This year's Dungeon Crawler Game Jam will be hosted, managed, and judged by our amazing community!
If you would like to participate by creating and submitting your own Dungeon Crawler, either solo or as a team, then make sure to sign up on the itch.io page below:
Jemy dedicated years to playing and summarizing dozens of games following the lineage of Dungeon Master, resulting in a video surpassing an epic length of 4h! Don't worry, timestamps are provided for easy navigation, splitting it into nice chunks. And it's not just the usual "Eye of the Beholders", "Ishars", and "Grimrocks" - you’re almost guaranteed to discover some you’ve never even heard of:
Pilot Episode of a Video Series by Kordanor covering all entries from the Dungeoncrawler Game Jam 2025.
This Pilot Episode answers questions like "What is a Dungeoncrawler?" and "What is a Game Jam?", which are important to know to understand what is going on in the videos to come.
Here we are again. 5 years running. Unbelievable :)
The 5th(!) annual Dungeon Crawler Jam is coming to an itch.io near you!
I'm humbled by the amount of participators and games in previous jams, and the quality of the games submitted blow my mind. I look forward to seeing what you all create this time :)
Seldom do we see dungeon crawlers with such unique and intersting aesthetics and mechanics. It is evident that the developer has a deep love for this genre and the impact this game will have on the genre is massive. Traditionally we see the usual brick dungeon variety crawler experience with I-hit-you-and-you-hit-me style combat, but once in a while a game pops up that breaks (and improve) this mold.
Ooooh, this is exciting news! The winner of last year's game jam just informed us that the Steam page of Dawn of the Ashen Queen is now live, and it's something to get massively hyped up about!
Our dear friend Sabbas Eleftheriadis aka vlzvl has informed us that his dungeon crawler in development is now out on Steam as Early Access. Furthermore, it will feature on the next Steam Fest on 10-17 of June.
This is great news for all you crawlerheads and especially those of you that enjoyed the first game! Legends of Amberland II: The Song of Trees has now been released for PC!
