A lot has been going on in the realm of Dungeoncrawlers lately. Today's release of Legends of Amberland 3 by Silver Lemur Games is a great opportunity to also mention a couple of upcoming releases and a variety of demos which have just been unleashed upon us.
Legends of Amberland 3
Let's start with the fresh release. The Legends of Amberland series is strongly inspired by Might and Magic 3-5, and like these, it features an open world with quests and turn-based combat. It strongly builds upon the two prior games. So if you liked these or loved to play the old Might and Magic games, then make sure to have a look (you can also check out the Demo). Available on: GOG | Steam
The Darkness Below
Two weeks ago The Darkness Below was released. While in terms of graphics it might be inspired by Eye of the Beholder, in terms of gameplay the inspiration seems to be closer to Might and Magic as well, as it also features an open world with turn based combat. It as well offers a demo! Steam
THYSIASTERY
From the past to the future! One week from now THYSIASTERY will be released. This time with different inspirations, as this one is leaning towards the Roguelike side. Also comes with a very cool and unique art style. While release is in a week, you can have a look today already via the demo version. Steam
DEMOS!
Besides of these three games, I also want to mention a few demos of upcoming games which became available recently (and might only be available for a limited time).
Cyclopean II: The Dreamlands Minimalistic graphics. Top-down exploration meets Dungeoncrawling in a H.P. Lovecraft setting (Demo probably time limited) Steam-Demo
Dungeons of Dusk The DUSK FPS games are getting expanded with a turn-based crawler. Recent demo patch also includes a FOV adjustment! Steam-Demo
Dungeons of Ironshade Inspired by Eye of the Beholder, but visually very close to Legend of Grimrock. Steam-Demo
Dverghold This turn-based Dungeon Crawler goes for a bit of low poly look. Featuring base building and procedural Dungeons. Steam-Demo
Toward The Ice This one is probably closer to Wizardry or The Bard's Tale with its Random encounters. Steam-Demo
Underkeep An amazing looking turn based crawler. With just about 15 minutes of playtime the demo is rather short but its beautiful graphics and funny writing are already very promising. Steam-Demo
Vampire Crawlers I was a bit hesitant to mention it here. While meeting our Dungeon Crawler Definition it basically only uses crawling for the 4-5 steps to the next encounter you engage in the next card battle. Feels like a high production value game, but might not scratch that old-school "Dungeon Crawler" itch. Steam-Demo
A Kobold Story: Trenchcoat Adventurer Follow the adventures of three Kobolds in a Trenchcoat. Neatly drawn with quite funny writing. Steam-Demo
So...there is a lot of stuff to crawl through! Wishing you a lot of fun doing so!
